The children at The Lotus Children’s Home come from a variety of religious and cultural backgrounds.  Most are sent to Kathmandu by single mothers who are forced by circumstance into difficult labor jobs, which make it impossible for them to care for their often many children.

Amrita



Amrita is 10 years old. She hopes to become a nurse when she is older. Amrita is the “Lotus Children Home” jump rope champion. She can jump on one foot more than one hundred times! She also likes to sing and dance.

Anu



Anu is just 4 years old. Anu may be small but she is by far the loudest of any of the children. Anu’s favorite game to play is duck-duck-goose.

Jenisha



Jenisha is only 6 years old. Like the other girls Jenisha also loves to jump rope and to sing and dance. She knows many different songs.  

Jessica



Although only 3 and a half years old, Jessica is often the boss around the “Lotus Children’s Home.” (At least she thinks she is.)  She loves to be picked up and held in the air, and will be content for hours only doing this.

Mary



Mary is 12 years and is always smiling.  She likes to sing and dance, and because she is oldest, she often helps to care for the younger children. 

Nabina



Nabina is 3 years old and is the smallest resident of The Lotus Children Home.  She loves to play with the other children, but she is smart enough to stay out of the way during games that are rougher.  Her favorite game is also duck-duck-goose.  

Navaraj



Navaraj is 6 years old.  Navaraj loves to do everything.  He is always excited and enthusiastic.  He especially likes airplane rides and to play football.

Prava



Prava is 10 years old.  She reads in class 2, and like the other girls she also likes jump rope and to sing and dance. Prava and Amrita are best friends. 

Pryanka



Priyanka is 7 years old.  Priyanka is a little shy but she loves to play games with the other children.  While she is usually very quiet at first, by the end of a game she is the loudest and most excited of all.  Her laughter is adorable and very contagious.

Ram



Ram is 12 year old and is Mary’s twin brother.  Like Mary, Ram is often seen smiling.  Ram likes to play football, and Caremboard, a Nepali board game. 

Suman



Suman is 6 years old and is Anu’s older sister.  Like her younger sister, Suman’s favorite game is also duck-duck-goose.
